Last week, I visited New York. While there, we toured four different colleges and saw a broadway show. The colleges we visited were Columbia, Stevens, Rochester Institute of Technology and University of Rochester.
Personally, I thought Columbia’s campus was very pretty, but the tour we were given left much to desire. There was only one opportunity to use the bathroom, whereas all of the other colleges provided multiple opportunities. Besides that, I did think they had a wide variety of classes you can take, which really diversified the campus and people you could meet there.
As for Stevens, I also thought the campus was pretty, and I really liked to location. It actually wasn’t in New York City, but instead was across the river. I feel like this is nice because you have a very close location to many large shops and areas, while still being able to avoid some of the downsides of bustling city life.
University of Rochester was also very pretty, and offered very neat programs. I thought the campus was very big and there were plenty of areas you could study and hang out in. I also felt like it was very walkable, and it would be easy to go from one building from another if you had classes in different locations.
However, none of these stood out to me as much as RIT did. I really liked RIT because of how many opportunities are provided there. There are lots of clubs, very advanced technology you can use for your classes, job fairs, co-ops, accelerated master degree programs, and much more. It also provided an aerospace engineering master, which is something I am interested in pursuing. It felt like you had so many opportunities to show off what you could build, both in college events and in your classes, and I really enjoyed the tour.
Overall, the trip was very fun. It was interesting to get an idea of what colleges are like and what requirements they may need so I can get an idea of what activities and classes I may need to engage in in high school. College aside, the play we saw, Book of Mormon, was very funny and entertaining. This was a very fun trip, and one I will certainly remember.
